Part of Our Community – The Bixby Knolls Literary Society

No doubt, last year’s renovations, façade and street scape improvements have encouraged residents to get out of their homes and discover more of what Bixby Knolls has to offer. With the return of First Fridays and the ever-expanding performances from Alive Theatre, there is always something exciting going on in our neighborhood. But live music and theatre aren’t for everyone. That’s one of the best things about the Bixby Knowles community; whatever your preference for the Arts, there’s an activity out there that’s just right for you.

So it’s time to turn off the computer and check out the Bixby Knolls Literary Society: a good old fashioned book club, but on a much larger scale.

Since their inception in March 2008, the Literary Society has gathered to discuss books such as The Holy Land by DJ Waldie, A Mass for the Dead by William Gibson, A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemmingway, and Native Son by Richard Wright. With their varied selection of American literature and new releases that challenge our thinking, the society is creates an open and inviting discussion space for people of all literary tastes. Lead by Gail Cohn, the society features renowned speakers as well as special guest authors who attend to discuss their books.

LoveInTheTimeOfCholeraNow is the perfect time to grab a friend and head out to the Richard Goad Theatre to rediscover the joy of a great book.

The next meeting of The Bixby Knolls Literary Society will take place on Wednesday, September 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Richard Goad Theatre, 4250 Atlantic Avenue. The book club selection for September is Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

If you have any questions about book selections or parking, I encourage you to contact the Bixby Knolls Information directory at phone (562) 595-0081 or visit www.bixbyknollsinfo.com.
